Rani Kajal Jeevan Shala school was started for Adivasi children of local villages of Alirajpur district in Madhya Pradesh. It runs on the foundation of local leadership, local resources, local knowledge and culture.
It is located in Kakrana village, on the bank of Narmada river. Most of the people living in and around this area belong to the Bhil tribe.
The public education system does not cater to the need of Bhil culture or Bhilali language in their schools. Rani Kajal combines innovative techniques of educating children using Bhilali words in Hindi script, along with a balanced mix of standard education and Adivasi contextual history. This ensures that children are trained in modern education such that they are equipped to play a part in the larger society; at the same time, they are provided with confidence and abilities to preserve their rich culture and heritage for generations to come.
The name 'Rani Kajal' stems from the name of a Bhil Goddess Rani Kajal who in their mythology rescued them from trouble in a time of pestilence. Thus the name symbolises the main aim of the society, which is to revive traditional culture and establish a strong identity for the Bhils.
Our vision is to build a center for education on the foundation of equality, diversity and a humane society.
All that we do at Rani Kajal Jeevan Shala is encompassedwithin our values.
